Hunting Trophy Information
Red Stag
All hunting
is free ranging and fair chase, and you can hunt with rifle or bow.
During the months of March, April and May, these magnificent animals
come down from the high country for the rutting or roar period. Given
the very vocal nature of red stags, this can make for some very exciting
hunting and a truly unforgettable hunting experience.
Trophies
are normally of the traditional 12 to 14 point class with very good
length and mass.
Our red
stag hunting area, of approx 60,000 acres, is set amid the spectacular
Southern Alps. It is bounded by one of the South Island 's most
beautiful lakes. Access is by 4x4 and you will stay in comfortable farm
accommodation.
Red Stag, hunted in the Wanaka area, is best
undertaken in the roar period (mid March to Mid April). Trophy quality
in the free ranging herd is 220-300 SCI. We can hunt this area from
Queenstown or use one of the mountain (musterer's) huts on the station
(ranch).
As well as the free ranging hunt area, upon request we have access to
one of New Zealand’s finest hunting preserves (enclosed). Here trophies
of exceptional size and mass can be hunted in spectacular mountainous
terrain with Red stags in excess of 400 SCI points available.

Tahr
Our tahr area is one of the best in New Zealand. At 60,000 acres
this property gives us plenty of room to move and hunt. With a 100%
success rate, our trophies average over 12” for this free ranging hunt.
Our best trophy being No. 3 (13" bull) with a bow. Accommodation is a
high country hut or tent, and access is by helicopter or 4x4. A
reasonable degree of fitness is required for this hunt. (Please note
that we have had several ladies take tahr in this area.) Trophy quality
is very high. This is a must area for the serious trophy hunter using
either rifle or bow.

Alpine Chamois
Chamois are a special animal to hunt. They inhabit the cold alpine
ridge country of the Southern Alps, and can be extremely hard to
approach. This is because they have keen eyesight, hearing and smell.
April through May is the rutting period, with bucks being very
protective of the does and of their area. (I've seen bucks chase a rival
for more that half a mile before returning to his harem.) Chamois are a
challenge to hunt and a most rewarding trophy. Hunting is in another high country
station in the Wanaka area. Hunters can choose to walk in or fly by
helicopter into the top country for the day and be picked up at night.
Trophies range between 9'' and 10'' and can be hunted with rifle or bow.

Wapiti (Elk)
Wapiti are
available free ranging in the Fiordland National Park. The hunt however,
is extremely difficult with high mountainous terrain, and steep bush
clad valleys. Access is by helicopter and by foot. Accommodation is tent
camp.
For those
hunters interested in hunting here, reward is in taking a hard earned
trophy in some of the most spectacular, and remote country in the world.
As with the
red stag, wapiti are also available in the same game preserve upon
request.

and travel to the hunting area each day. Sika are one of the most
interesting of the deer species to hunt.

Fallow Buck
We have several large properties available to us to hunt. The largest

property producing top 10 ten trophies each year. While with us in our

Whitetail Buck
These timid and shy animals inhabit two areas, they are: Stewart Island,
located off the south coast of New Zealand, and, the head of Lake
Wakatipu in the Southern Lakes area of the South Island.
Stewart Island has the largest population, however, trophy quality is
not very good. The Lake Wakatipu herd is of moderate population with
reasonable trophy quality. Hard to hunt, but rewarding once you are
successful.
Allow plenty of time for this hunt.

Boar, Goats and Ram
These trophies inhabit the lowland hill and bush country throughout New
Zealand. Normally quite easy to hunt, and a great add-on to your red
stag or tahr hunt. Allow a couple of days to hunt these animals.
